Event description:
Scott G. Bruce is a Professor of History at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. A specialist in religion and culture in the early and central Middle Ages, he boasts an extensive and distinguished publishing record, on such disparate topics as monastic silence and sign-languages, Carolingian hagiography, and the transmission and reception of Greek and Latin classics in the early medieval West. Present projects include a forthcoming collection of essays on Carolingian and Cluniac manuscript culture, to be published with Cornell University Press, and also The Lost Patriarchs Project, an NEH-funded survey of works by Greek Fathers transmitted in the medieval Latin tradition. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, he is executive editor of the journal Traditio: Studies in Ancient and Medieval History, Thought, and Religion, and in 2024/5, he is a Member in the School of Historical Studies at the Institute of Advanced Studies.
His talk at YLMS is entitled ‘The Legacies of Cleopatra VII in the Middle Ages.’
