Graduate students in Medieval Studies are eligible for a wide range of grants and fellowships. In consultation with their advisors and the DGS, they are encouraged to begin applying for support for research travel, conference presentations, and skill-development programs early in their time at Yale.
GSAS offers a range of grants for Ph.D. students, including support for conference travel and for student-run colloquia.
Internal Yale funding programs and deadlines can be found via the Central Grants Database and directly through the web pages of funding agencies such as the Macmillan Center. Professional societies, including the Medieval Academy of America, also offer a variety of support for graduate students.
Ph.D. students enrolled in the Medieval Studies Program are eligible to apply for limited support through the Small Grants Fund. Resources for this program are limited: it is mainly intended to cover shortfalls in other funding. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis, with only one grant in each category to any individual student. Those students who have not received support in previous years will receive priority. SGF applicants must show evidence that they have applied for other support as well.
Students may apply for grants in support of conference travel, and for external learning opportunities, including language study. Grants are limited to $1000 for international travel, and $500 for domestic travel.
